Turks are obsessed with sex
Turkish columnist Mehmet Ali Birand called Turkish society “sex-obsessed” shortly before his death. “Let’s not forget that in Ukraine, women recently protested in front of the Turkish Embassy against their Turkish clients’ excessive interest in sex,” he said, explaining his remarks. Apparently true – although porn Internet offers are now completely blocked in Turkey, before the filtering system Turkey was considered one of the world’s leading countries in access to sex sites, reports the “World”. The bogus morality is also evident in the way prostitution is handled in Turkey: although it has been officially allowed since 1930, recently only eleven of the original 90 brothels remain, with the government closing them down for trivialities. As a result, places like the historic “Istanbul St. Pauli” below the Galata Tower on a side street are no longer recognizable. The prostitutes even protested there the other day. No new legal prostitutes are allowed, the existing ones are getting older and older, illegal prostitution and human trafficking with Eastern European women is flourishing. There are about 3000 legal and 100,000 illegal prostitutes. According to Turkey correspondent Susanne Güsten, this results in “wild prostitution without officially prescribed health checks,” and the HIV rate is rising.
